About Seri Niaga

A consulting practice built around the business owner, not the other way around

We started Seri Niaga because small business owners in Malaysia deserve advisory support that takes their situation seriously โ€” not off-the-shelf advice dressed up as tailored thinking.

Our Story

How Seri Niaga came to be

Seri Niaga was founded in Kuala Lumpur by a small group of people who had spent years working in and around Malaysian businesses โ€” in finance, in operations, and alongside owners navigating the pressures that come with running something yourself.

What we kept hearing from owners was that the advice available to them tended to either feel too generic โ€” not connected to the realities of running a small operation in Malaysia โ€” or too prescriptive, arriving with a fixed answer before the conversation had really begun.

We opened our Bukit Bintang office to offer something quieter: a place where business owners could talk through what was actually happening, look at their situation clearly, and figure out the right next steps at a pace that suited them.

Our Mission

What we are here to do

Our work is about helping small business owners in Malaysia make well-considered decisions โ€” not faster ones, not bolder ones, but ones they can stand behind and act on with some confidence.

We keep our client roster deliberately small. That is not a limitation โ€” it is how we maintain the quality of attention that makes our work worthwhile. Each owner we work with gets a consistent person to talk to, not a different consultant each time.

How We Work

Our professional standards

These are not just policies. They are the habits we have developed over years of working with business owners who trusted us with real information.

Client Confidentiality

What you share stays between us. We do not discuss client details with other clients, partners, or third parties. This applies to everything โ€” financial figures, staffing situations, personal circumstances.

Written Scope for Every Engagement

Before we begin any work, we confirm in writing what is included, what the timeline looks like, and what you can expect to receive. No ambiguity about what you are paying for.

Regular Communication

We check in at agreed intervals and respond to email within one business day. You should never be left wondering where things stand or whether we have forgotten about you.

Honest Assessments

We say what we actually observe, not what sounds reassuring. If something looks difficult, we name it clearly. Softening the picture does not serve you well in the long run.

Data Privacy Compliance

We handle all client information in line with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Client data is stored securely and not retained beyond the end of an engagement without explicit agreement.

Ongoing Professional Development

Our team keeps current with local business conditions, regulatory changes, and advisory best practices โ€” so our input is grounded in how things actually work in Malaysia today.

Our Approach

Business consulting that respects how small businesses actually work

Small businesses in Malaysia operate under conditions that larger organisations rarely face โ€” tighter cash positions, smaller teams where one absence creates real pressure, and customer relationships that are personal rather than transactional. Advisory work that ignores these conditions tends to produce plans that look sensible on paper but fall apart in practice.

At Seri Niaga, we build our understanding of each client's situation before we offer any direction. That means asking about daily rhythms, about which parts of the business feel stable and which feel fragile, and about what the owner themselves wants from the next period โ€” not just what the numbers say should happen.

We draw on experience across retail, food and beverage, professional services, and light manufacturing โ€” sectors where small operators are common and where local conditions shape how strategy actually plays out. Our knowledge of the Kuala Lumpur business environment, and of the national market more broadly, informs the practical dimension of everything we do.

We take advisory work seriously as a discipline. That means staying current with changes in the Malaysian regulatory environment, keeping our understanding of local financing options up to date, and knowing which government support programmes are actually accessible to small operators rather than just listed on a website.
